EDP Renewables, a global leader in renewable energy and the fourth-largest wind energy producer, is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our Engineering Department in Houston, Texas. In this role, you will act as a subject matter expert in medium and low voltage, AC and DC systems design for wind, solar, and battery storage facilities. You will oversee and guide the design efforts of third-party consultants, ensure compliance with all relevant standards and codes, and drive design innovation to optimize project costs and maximize power purchase agreement potential. Your main responsibilities will include developing comprehensive electrical design deliverables such as collection system design drawings, short circuit studies, reactive power and load flow analyses, grounding studies, and SCADA rack designs. You will directly manage engineering consultants and coordinate project activities across multiple internal departments including Construction, Operations, Development, and Procurement. Additionally, you will attend monthly project construction meetings, support equipment procurement through datasheet creation and technical proposal reviews, and collaborate with the Development Engineering team to ensure smooth project handoffs. This is a full-time hybrid position based in Houston, with approximately 25% travel anticipated. You will work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment where strong leadership, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects are essential. Responsibilities

  • Act as subject matter expert for medium and low voltage AC and DC systems design for wind, solar, and battery storage facilities
  • Ensure MV/LV electrical designs comply with EDPR, ISO, utility, regional, environmental, health & safety, and industry standards
  • Develop design deliverables including collection system drawings, short circuit studies, reactive power and load flow studies, grounding studies, and SCADA designs
  • Drive design innovation and optimization to reduce project costs and maximize power purchase agreement potential
  • Direct and manage engineering consultants and EPC contractors to ensure timely delivery of design outputs
  • Coordinate project activities with internal departments including Construction, Operations, Development, Environmental, Estimating, and Procurement
  • Attend monthly project construction meetings to maintain project knowledge and resolve electrical issues
  • Collaborate with Development Engineering team on preliminary engineering for the development pipeline
  • Coordinate equipment procurement through datasheet creation, technical proposal review, and factory acceptance tests
  • Support periodic reviews and modifications of internal engineering design guidelines
  • Provide support to operating facilities as needed
  • Promote environmental stewardship and health and safety-focused culture
