EDP Renewables, a global leader in renewable energy and the fourth-largest wind energy producer, is seeking an experienced HV Engineering Lead to support our High Voltage Operations Team in Houston, Texas. In this role, you will provide critical electrical and high-voltage expertise to our renewable generation facilities, serving as a subject matter expert on HV issues. You will be responsible for ongoing maintenance activities, new facility integration, betterment project development, and interdepartmental communication while ensuring compliance with NERC standards and supporting both reactive and preventive maintenance operations.

Your main accountabilities will include providing comprehensive electrical and substation support to operating renewable generation facilities, participating in engineering and design review processes, supporting new project commissioning, and developing improved commissioning and maintenance procedures. You will conduct event analysis of protection systems, develop NERC MIDAS reports, lead site betterment projects, and serve as a subject matter expert during internal and external audits. With up to 2 direct reports and 25% travel requirements, you will lead or participate in project meetings while maintaining strong communication with internal teams and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Provide electrical, high-voltage, collection system, and substation support to operating renewable generation facilities including intermittent on-call support
  • Participate in engineering, design, and construction review processes including review of collection system, substation, and transmission line designs
  • Support new project commissioning, documentation support, and assist with project energization
  • Review and continuously improve commissioning, maintenance, and standard operating procedures
  • Review maintenance records and recommend corrective actions to ensure reliability and compliance with NERC standards
  • Develop, review, and maintain work instructions for reactive and preventive maintenance activities
  • Develop and maintain electrical troubleshooting guides for intelligent electronic device (IED) training
  • Conduct event analysis of protection system operations to determine misoperation status
  • Develop, test, and implement corrective operational plans for protection system misoperations
  • Develop and submit NERC MIDAS reports
  • Develop structured feedback sessions for lessons learned with project team
  • Review and maintain IED settings repository
  • Review and update project documentation
  • Maintain compliance of NERC standards PRC-027 and validate arc flash studies
  • Develop and implement site betterment projects including scope documents and budgets
  • Interact closely with internal teams to ensure project needs are met
  • Lead or participate in project meetings and conference calls
  • Evaluate and provide feedback on project plans, specifications, and drawings
  • Participate in due-diligence review of renewable generation facility electrical designs
  • Assist with updating NERC-related project documents and act as subject matter expert during audits
  • Perform additional duties as required
