EDP Renewables is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to join our Engineering Department in Houston, Texas. You will act as a subject matter expert in medium and low voltage AC and DC systems design for wind, solar, and battery storage facilities. Your role will involve overseeing design efforts, ensuring compliance with all relevant standards and regulations, and driving innovation to optimize project costs and schedules.

As an Electrical Engineer, you will manage a diverse range of responsibilities including collection system design, short circuit studies, grounding analysis, cable ampacity studies, and power plant controller design. You will direct and coordinate with engineering consultants and EPC contractors, collaborate across multiple internal departments, and provide critical support during project construction phases. Your expertise will be instrumental in maintaining project schedules and resolving complex electrical issues on site.

This is a full-time hybrid position based in Houston that offers the opportunity to work on large-scale renewable energy projects while contributing to EDP's mission of leading the global energy transition. Responsibilities

  • Act as subject matter expert on MV/LV electrical systems design for wind, solar, and battery storage facilities
  • Ensure electrical designs comply with EDPR, ISO, utility, regional, environmental, health & safety, and industry standards
  • Create design deliverables including collection system drawings, studies (short circuit, load flow, grounding, arc flash), and plant controller designs
  • Drive design innovation and optimization to reduce project costs
  • Direct and manage engineering consultants and EPC contractors to ensure timely delivery
  • Coordinate activities with internal departments (Construction, Operations, Development, Procurement, Legal, etc.)
  • Attend monthly project construction meetings and provide on-site support
  • Collaborate with Development Engineering team on preliminary designs
  • Coordinate equipment procurement and factory acceptance tests
  • Review and update internal engineering design guidelines
