Farfetch, a leading global luxury fashion marketplace, is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel, Regulatory (APAC) to join its strategic Legal team in London. This is a unique opportunity to lead on regulatory matters across the APAC region, including Hong Kong, Japan, Macau, Taiwan, Mainland China, South Korea, Singapore, Australia, and New Zealand. You will deliver high-quality strategic legal advice across multiple operational territories, acting as a true business partner within a global, fast-moving, and innovative organisation. In this role, you will provide proactive, strategic, and pragmatic advice on managing legal risks in the external business and regulatory environment. Your responsibilities will include advising on local regulatory frameworks including payments, digital regulation, consumer protection, and competition law; tracking and assessing regulatory requirements; identifying and mitigating risks; developing strategies for engaging with regulators; and overseeing payments-related matters. You will negotiate, draft, and review a broad range of commercial contracts and legal documentation, build compliance processes and tools, supervise local legal counsel, and support senior leadership on legal matters and compliance. This role is ideal for a commercially-minded, intellectually curious professional with at least 6 years' Post-Qualification Experience (PQE), superior analytical skills, and previous in-house experience. You should have experience advising on digital regulation and/or payments, with the ability to assess international legislation quickly and apply it on a risk-based basis. Fluency in English is essential; Mandarin Chinese is appreciated but not necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Provide proactive, strategic and pragmatic advice on managing legal risks in the external business and regulatory environment
  • Advise on local regulatory frameworks, including payments, digital regulation, consumer protection and competition law in APAC
  • Track and assess existing and new regulatory requirements for the Farfetch Group and advise on implementation
  • Identify, monitor and evaluate regulatory risks and enforcement trends, and take proactive steps to mitigate these
  • Develop strategies for engaging with relevant regulators in APAC
  • Oversee payments-related matters in APAC, including reviewing contracts with payment processors and ensuring compliant payment models
  • Advise on tariffs matters from a legal perspective
  • Negotiate, draft and review commercial contracts, policies, guidance, corporate documentation and other legal documentation
  • Build compliance processes, tools, policies and training to educate relevant parts of the Farfetch Group
  • Liaise with external law firms in APAC for local support as needed
  • Supervise and support legal counsel, particularly a local Legal Counsel based in mainland China
  • Support the Head of Legal, Regulatory and Group Legal VP on legal matters and compliance
